Hi All,

With the lengthening days we now have enough daylight hours to stimulate a chicken's pituitary which in turn starts up their ovaries to start laying more eggs. If you have ever thought of keeping chickens it is a good time to start making plans. It is great to produce your own eggs... so much more nutritious than store bought eggs ... and the manure is a wonderful bye product for your garden.

Chickens need a small coupe and a small run of 4 sq. ft. per bird; more is better but not necessary. We have full grown laying chickens for sale for $20 each or we can order day old chicks for you to arrive in May and you can grow them out yourself. They would cost around $4.00. The chickens will start laying at about 6 months of age.

Also, we sell chicken feed and scratch and can answer your chicken raising questions. If people are interested we will organize a chicken keeping class in the near future so let us know if that appeals to you. Stop by the Center or call me (Dick) at 309 1447.

We have sold the grass finished beef that has been mentioned previously, but can get more if someone is interested. A quarter beef..... about 125 lbs, of steaks, roasts, and ground sells for under $6 lb. It's quite a deal. If storage is a problem we can keep it for you in our walk in freezer.

All the best, Melinda & Dick
